Dukes, Leopold

(1810-91)
   Hungarian historian. He was born in Pressburg. He visited libraries in Europe and uncovered many unknown medieval works. His research covered aggadic literature, Bible exegesis, medieval Jewish literature, Hebrew grammar and masoretic texts, and talmudic maxims and truisms. He translated Rashi's Torah commentary into German and published studies of the poetry of Solomon ibn Gabirol and Moses ibn Ezra.
